About Dental Implants

At Dallas Prosthodontics, our goal is to provide you with restorations for broken or lost teeth. Missing teeth, even only one or two, have a significant impact on normal, everyday activities as well as your appearance. Functions like eating and speaking become very difficult to do properly. But with dental implants, we can restore these abilities and give you a completely natural, beautiful smile.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small titanium rods that we surgically insert into your jawbone. The implants fuse to the bone, providing a strong, stable support for your false teeth. Abutments are screwed onto the implants and ceramic crowns are placed on top. Unlike dentures, which are removed every night for cleaning, implants are permanent and the crowns are made from ceramic, so they can be cared for just like natural teeth.

Benefits Of Dental Implant Supported Prostheses

•  Fixed. They do not need to be removed for cleaning
•  Comfortable. False teeth are supported by the implants, rather than your gums
•  You can eat better. Implants will not move around or fall out. You can effectively chew your food, which in turn improves digestion and your overall health
•  Improve speech. Because implants do not move, your speech can return to normal. You also do not have to worry about adjusting your speech to deal with foreign objects in your mouth
•  More natural appearance. Even with all of the advancements of traditional dentures, the base can still be visible. Implants do not have a base. The crowns blend with your natural gum tissue for a more realistic appearance
•  Maintain the integrity of your jawbone. The implants act like tooth roots and stimulate your jawbone. This helps to preserve the bone mass, which means your jaw will not change shape over time

Types of Dental Implants

•  Single tooth implants
•  Multiple tooth implants
•  Implant supported bridge
•  Implant supported denture (both fixed and removable overdentures)
•  All-on-4® Treatment Concept implants

Implant Procedure

Placing an implant is a surgical procedure. We will refer you to a surgeon for this process.

Healing from Implant Surgery

Healing from implant surgery can take several weeks to a few months. During this time, you may experience some pain and swelling. The surgeon will provide you with instructions on how to deal with any discomfort as well as how to care for the surgical sites. While you heal, we will provide you with temporary false teeth so you can eat and speak. You will have several appointments so we can monitor your healing progress and do all necessary adjustments to your teeth to ensure your comfort.
