Quick Facts About Dental Implants

Posted on 3/7/2022 by Dr. Castellon
Quick Facts About Dental ImplantsOur prosthodontist will recommend dental implants if you have missing teeth. Implants look and feel just like your natural teeth. They provide a long-term solution to resolve the issues of unsightly gaps. These restorative treatments are an alternative to dentures, crowns, and bridges. If you are opting for dental implants, you may want to know some quick facts about them.

Long-lasting

While dentures and dental bridges need replacement throughout the years, when you have dental implants, you are sure you have a more permanent solution. Dental implants last for a long time if you ensure good oral hygiene and regular visits to our prosthodontist for examinations and cleanings. During your yearly dental exam, our dentist reassesses the health of the implant restoration as well as the implants to determine if repairs, adjustments, or replacement are necessary.

Implants work for most People

Patients who have one or more teeth missing may consider dental implants. Our prosthodontist performs a thorough dental exam to determine if the jaw has sufficient bone volume and is healthy to support the implant. A bone grafting may precede the implants if you have deteriorated jawbone. Also, your gums will need to be healthy. They should be free of gingivitis or periodontitis. If you use tobacco products, you may not receive implants, unless you stop using these products. If you are pregnant, you also may not qualify for implants. Patients with chronic ailments such as diabetes may not be eligible for dental implants unless the conditions are put under control. Otherwise, many people will be candidates for dental implants.

Implants make Good Neighbors to Other teeth

Since dental implants work like your natural teeth, they do not harm the neighboring teeth. In fact, they help enhance the health of the neighboring teeth by preventing issues such as gum disease and ensuring a healthy, strong jawbone. You don't need to have the surrounding teeth altered in shape or size to get implants, so the surrounding teeth remain intact and healthy. Visit our dental office to find out if dental implants are an option for replacement of missing teeth.
