Why Teeth Need Protection Following a Root Canal

Even though you may feel, and quite rightly so, that the most painful part about a root canal surgery is the procedure itself, you need to be careful even in the post-operative phase. Your tooth and gum will be particularly vulnerable and sensitive during this time and you will have to be cautious to protect them from any infection or damage. Potential Problems After a Root Canal During a root canal surgery, our surgeons detect and clean the infection in the root that connects the tooth to the gum. Once it's cleaned, a sealant is used to shut the canal. There will be some discomfort after the procedure as the tooth and jaw get adjusted to your normal chewing motions. In rare instances, an infected root may be missed or the sealant may leak, leading to pain and discomfort in that area. Caring For Your Teeth After a Root Canal You shouldn't let your guard down after a root canal. In the immediate aftermath, take it slow and do not consume any hard food that might require strenuous chewing. It's important to abide by the basic rules of hygiene even after the surgery. As always, brush your teeth twice a day and floss at least once. While brushing and flossing, take care to be gentle around the tooth where the surgery has been performed. Our doctors would have suggested an oral disinfectant that you should use regularly to avoid the build-up of germs or bacteria. Your Follow-Up Visits With Us After the successful completion of a root canal surgery, our surgeon will give you a detailed list of dos and don'ts, and a follow-up schedule. Do make sure that you stick to them and are regular in your check-ups as our doctors would need to analyze the operated area carefully to know how it's healing....
