When dentures are made properly, they're quite durable. This doesn't mean that they're indestructible though. Instead, you should think about them like you would think about a pair of eyeglasses. Even when you take really good care of your eyeglasses, eventually there will come a time when they're going to need to be tightened and readjusted. This is no less true for your dentures. There will come a time when you'll need to make an appointment with us to have them relined or rebased. Eventually, you'll even need to have them remade. By taking meticulous care of your dentures, you can prolong the amount of time between when these things will need to be done, but the truth still remains that eventually these things must be done. When You Need Your Dentures FixedYou'll know that it's time for you to get a new pair of dentures because the ones you now have will feel somewhat loose in your mouth and their teeth will start showing signs of having undergone a lot of wear and tear. If you've taken good care of your dentures, you can blame the change on the fact that your mouth undergoes natural changes as you grow older. Your bone and gum ridges will either recede or shrink. When this happens, your jaw will align differently, causing your dentures to not fit as securely any longer. This will then lead to sore spots where your denture has rubbed against your gums and you may even develop an infection that when left untreated will result in oral cancer. This is why it's so important for you to give us a call any time you feel as though your dentures are no longer fitting your mouth correctly. Doing so will save you a lot of time and pain later....
